Totally Ortho Dental Clinic Painting, Dulwich Hill

Commercial · Dulwich Hill, Sydney

We repainted the original clinic area and a newer section at Totally Ortho in Dulwich Hill. The main challenge was the preparation: damaged rendered walls, old oil-based timberwork, water-stained ceiling areas and a new plasterboard partition all needed attention before the finishing coats. Because the clinic operates during the working week, we carried out the work on Saturdays and Sundays.

In the original area, we used a steamer to remove a narrow wallpaper border near the top of the walls. We also removed adhesive wall-protection strips fitted behind chairs. In this older building, sections of the rendered wall surface came away with the strips. We patched the damaged areas and the many existing holes, sanded the repairs and applied primer before finishing the walls with Dulux Wash&Wear.

There were numerous cracks at wall corners and along the junctions beneath the cornices and ceilings. We repaired these as part of the preparation. Water-stained ceiling areas were treated with Zinsser stain-blocking primer and finished with two coats of ceiling paint.

The existing timberwork had an oil-based coating. We prepared and primed it with Zinsser before applying multiple coats of Dulux Aquanamel. At the client's request, we also removed selected doors. The redundant hinge and latch recesses in the retained frames were filled, sanded, primed and painted to finish the openings without the doors.

The newer clinic section needed similar preparation. We removed the adhesive chair-protection strips and repaired the damage they left behind. Existing Totally Ortho wall graphics were removed, and the affected wall surfaces were patched. We also filled and repaired holes left by wall-mounted electric heaters and sealed gaps around the frames before painting.

Water-stained ceiling areas in this section received Zinsser stain-blocking primer followed by two coats of ceiling paint. A newly installed plasterboard partition was sanded, primed and finished with wall paint.

The fireplace's black metal section had become rusty. At the client's request, we sanded the affected metal, applied a rust treatment and repainted it with two coats of black paint.

The project photographs show the wall repairs and protected work areas during preparation, followed by the repainted reception, waiting area and partition. The fireplace photographs show its condition before treatment and the fresh black finish afterwards.
